hey girrrls!

we are very very happy to announce that finally the eclectic tech carnival in 
brazil is taking off!

;)

below is a release in portuguese, english and spanish. we are about to send 
mainly to brazilian and latin american lists, but wanted to post here a 
little bit earlier so that we can think about a possible collaborations:
movies, performances, texts, irc tutorials, podcasts!

the place where the brazilian /etc is happening is the city of salvador, on 
the northeast of the country, a seaside and beautiful city at the heart of 
the afro-brazilian culture. the space is an independent space maintained by 
autonomous local groups and the /etc will basically work with girls from 
there, setting up a public telecenter and bringing internet connection so 
that they are able to continue with their own activities that include among 
other things vegan cooking, wendo (self-defense for women) and music.

the workshops are still being suggested on our wiki, feel free to add your 
ideas there!

Entre os dias 15 e 18 de novembro, será realizado, em Salvador (BA), o Ecletic 
Tech Carnival - Carnaval Eclético Tech. Carinhosamente apelidado de /etc-br, 
o encontro pretende ser um espaço para que mulheres apropriem-se da 
tecnologia de forma mais segura e íntima possível. Um ambiente para 
perguntas, curiosidades, construção e desconstrução de objetos e conceitos.

Por que /etc?
No /etc, um dos diretórios do sistema operacional GNU/Linux, são encontrados 
importantes arquivos de configurações gerais, tais como senhas, usuários, 
redes.

"e então perguntamos a nós mesmas : e se fôssemos parte do sistema de arquivos
do linux, qual seríamos? o /etc parecia o melhor lugar para um carnaval de
idéias, então o nome Carnaval Eclético Tech nasceu."

O núcleo principal do /etc internacional situa-se em amsterdã, holanda, e se 
encontra em anuais "carnavais ecléticos de tecnologia" desde pula na croácia 
até grécia, sérvia, áustria e romênia. De mulheres para mulheres. Em 2007 no
meio do ano aconteceu um /etc em linz na áustria em novembro o /etc-br no 
brasil, em salvador.

Os/as convidamos para contribuir na permanente construção e organização desse 
encontro próprio para aprendizagens, troca de experiências e chaves de fenda 
em mãos femininas!

/etc-br, the Brazilian Ecletic Tech Carnival, will take place in Salvador, 
capital of Bahia state, between 2 and 5 December. The event aims to provide a 
space for women to appropriate technologies in a more intimate and safer way: 
an environment which provokes and welcomes questions, curiosity, construction 
and deconstruction of objects and concepts.

Why /etc?
/etc, one of the directories in the GNU/Linux operational system, contains 
important files for general configurations such as passwords, users, 
networks.

"and then we asked ourselves: and if we were a part of the Linux system, what
would that be? /etc was the best place for a carnival of ideas, then the name
Eclectic Tech Carnival was born."

The main group behind the international /etc is located in Holland and meets 
annually at the "Eclectic Tech Carnivals" which have so far taken place in 
Croatia, Greece, Serbia, Austria and Romania. From women to women. In July 
2007 an /etc happened in Linz, Austria and the next one will take place in 
Brazil, the /etc-br.

We invite you to contribute to the permanent construction and organisation of 
this gathering which has as its purpose learning, exchange of knowledge 
and "screwdrivers in the hands of women"!

virtually if you are not able to make it to Salvador!
As this is an autonomous encounter the resources are limited to the basic

Entre el 02 y 05 de diciembre, sucederá, en el Salvador (BA), /etc-br, el 
Eclectic Tech Carnival o carnaval eclético tech brasileño, un encuentro que 
busca ser un espacio de apropiación del la tecnología para las mujeres, de 
una manera más intima y segura. En un ambiente abierto para las preguntas, 
las curiosidades, la construcción y la destrucción de objetos y conceptos.

¿Por qué /etc?

/etc es uno de los directorios del sistema operacional GNU/Linux, donde pueden 
estar archivos importantes para las configuraciones generales tales como 
contraseñas, usuarios,redes.

linux, ¿cual sería? /etc era el mejor lugar para un carnaval de ideas,
de allí surge el nombre del Carnaval Eclético Tech.

El núcleo principal de /etc internacional se sitúa en Holanda donde se 
encuentran anualmente en los "carnavales ecletic tech" del Pula en el Croacia 
a Grecia, Serbia, Austria y Rumania. de mujeres a las mujeres. En julio de 
2007 /etc sucedió en Linz, en Austria y el siguiente será en el 
Brasil: /etc-br (diciembre en el Salvador, Bahía).

encuentro aportando al cambio e intercambio de experiencias para aprender
