Using Software in artistic production

I want to debate the influence of the tool on the work(s) one can
realize; and I want to point out some questions on: how can I define quality in
contemporary media art production, what is networking, what is power
of definition of terms... all these fields that define who can become 'a successfull artist/programmer/writer/dancer/thinker'. And: is this interesting at all?
